The Ancient Kamiros.

The ruins of the Ancient Kamiros is no longer inhabited and over a period of time the earth has now covered the area. It has been discoverd that the digs in and around Kamiros, was once a Mycenean burial ground and home of the Doreans and Achaeans, from the second millenium BC. Kamiros was primarily a farming town producing figs, oils and wine. Also evident among the ruins are deposits of pottery. From the pottery as it is assumed that this area was really thriving in the 6th century BC.

It was only when the city of Rhodes was established that people started to move away; however, evidence has been found indicating that a small town was on the site in the 4th century AD. Most of the ruins that are visible date back to the Hellenistic period.
